Three UK bars among winners in international Spirited Awards

Three London bars were today named among the best in the world in the annual Spirited Awards from the organisers of the Tales of the Cocktail festival.

Kwãnt (pictured) in Mayfair was named best new international cocktail bar after being opened last year by Erik Lorincz, the former head bartender at The American Bar at London’s Savoy hotel.

The world’s best international hotel bar was Scarfes Bar at Rosewood London in Holborn while the award for best international bar team went to the Connaught Bar at The Connaught hotel in Mayfair.

The title of best new American cocktail bar went to Silver Lyan in Washington DC – a bar opened by the UK-based Mr Lyan team, led by British bartender Ryan Chetiyawardana, which also operates Super Lyan and Lyaness in London.

They were among the first round of winners announced in the 14th annual Spirited Awards for the global bar industry, usually held alongside Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans each July. Due to the global pandemic, they are being announced online.

Other winning bars in the international categories, which exclude the USA, included best international cocktail bar Native in Singapore, best international high-volume cocktail bar Licorería Limantour in Mexico City, and best international restaurant bar Sober Company in Shanghai.

The title of world’s best cocktail menu went to Atlas in Singapore, while the award for world’s best spirits selection was won by Amor y Amargo in New York City.

Writing, media and product winners were also announced, including best new spirit or cocktail ingredient, Tequila Fortaleza Winter Blend 2019.

The rest of the Spirited Awards winners will be announced in a live digital ceremony on September 24 at, including international bartender of the year and the Pioneer Award.

The Raise a Glass 2020 Spirited Awards Pre-Show will be hosted on September 24 at 9pm UK time, featuring live interviews with nominees and winners, hosted by international rum ambassador Ian Burrell and leading bartender Lynnette Marrero. The awards presentation will begin at 10pm UK time.
