Some of the world’s top distillers and blenders will lead a series of online masterclasses as part of a new festival of whisky.
Between 30 April and 21 May, the Virtual Whisky Festival will run four sessions, each built around a special tasting kit filled with five different whiskies, sent out in advance.
The tasting sessions will be hosted by leading drinks writer Becky Paskin, co-founder of whisky education platform OurWhisky, and will be live streamed on OurWhisky’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts. They will also be available to watch afterwards.
To add to the excitement, the identities of the whiskies and the special guests for each session will remain a secret until the tasting itself.
Tickets for participating in each session will cost £30, which includes five 30ml whisky samples. All profits from the festival, which is sponsored by the featured brands, will be donated to The Drinks Trust to support industry professionals affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The festival’s masterclasses are open only to UK residents aged 18 and over. To allow time for samples to be sent out, ticket sales will close five days before each event. The sessions will take place from 6pm to 7.30pm on 30 April, 7 May, 14 May and 21 May.
