Leading bars across the UK are celebrating Old Fashioned Week, which runs to 10 November, with many linking up with one of its partners, Woodford Reserve whiskey.
The brand has joined forces with 285 bars, from Edinburgh and Glasgow to Cardiff and Bristol, to run experiences, events and limited-edition menus featuring twists on the original recipe.
Although there are arguments in favour of rum, American whiskey – bourbon or rye – is generally considered the classic base ingredient, combined with sugar, bitters and ice.
Bars taking part include the award-winning Swift in Soho in London which is serving up a sweet take on an Old Fashioned called the Timber (pictured top), made with smooth, triple-distilled Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select.
Mia Johansson, co-owner of Swift, said: “Woodford Reserve really is the perfect base for all kinds of twists on the Old Fashioned, our most popular serve. We’ve taken inspiration from the ‘sweet aromatics’ flavour segment of Distiller’s Select – the backbone of the complex whiskey flavour – to craft a complex, wholesome Old Fashioned with notes directly from the award-winning mashbill.”

Other participating bars in London include Murder Inc, with the grain-influenced twist, Oryzae Does It Mate! (pictured above), Discount Suit Company with the spicy Fast and Loose, Three Sheets with a woody and nutty alternative, Whiskey + Milk (pictured below), and Homeboy with the fruity Orchard Old Fashioned (pictured bottom).

Groups taking part include Be At One, Bermondsey Pub Company, Brasserie Blanc and White Brasserie Company, Browns, Dishoom, London Cocktail Club and Malmaison.
In Manchester, Woodford Reserve is working on Old Fashioned Week with Bar Brass at Hotel Gotham, Science and Industry, Wood & Company and Cottonopolis. In Cardiff, Lab 22 and Mocka Lounge are taking part, while Filthy XIII, HMSS and Red Light are on board in Bristol.
In Scotland, Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Café and Edinburgh’s The Voyage of Buck and The Last Word Saloon are participating.
